       This is a collection of personal essays I wrote over the past twenty-five years inspired by the stories from Exodus. It has more to do with the actual journey of my soul in search of God than with commentary or explanation of Exodus. I tried to write more about Moses and the Hebrews than about myself, but as with all spiritual writers, it’s hard to separate what I write from what I’m living.

       I started reading about Exodus in preparation to teach an adult Bible study class in my church. I expected to learn about God’s might and power in this epic story, but what I discovered instead was God’s grace. It was clearly written in this beginning of the Old Testament, where I didn’t expect to find it.

      Through the process of writing these essays, God has changed me; and like the Hebrews living in Egypt, I didn’t think I needed to be changed. I was wrong. I’m grateful to God for the changes He made in my life through His book of Exodus to a renewed sense of His presence, and to my deeper understanding of His grace.
